Meanings and Materialities
Meanings and Materialities
Exhibition 6–15 June
Open every day 12:00-18:00Jari Koho & Juan Duarte
Weather and Touch Sensors, Audio Surface Transducers, Digital Signal Processing.
Like a natural entity, the weather is a GIFT, and we aim to approach it as an embodied resonance. This sound becomes a resonant connection with their audience by touching a visual representation of a spiral instrument. By interacting, the audience connects with the principles of the ancient instrument known as Tubo Cochleato (by Athanasius Kircher).
Using weather sensors we create a generative sound composition that is experienced as an Embodied Listening. This piece becomes a GIFT to listeners who encounter a sonic translation of the atmosphere within the confined interiors of this room.
Duarte is an artist-researcher and a Ph.D. candidate at Aalto University in Finland. He has a BA in Audiovisual Communication from U. Claustro de Sor Juana and a Master of Arts in New Media, Design, and Production from Aalto, He has collected experiences in sound design, interactive technologies, and media research. His work revolves around the symbiotic relationship between nature and technology, particularly through environmental sound.
His approach yields unique artifacts resonating with the connection between nature and technology. He aims to create diversified technologies that facilitate a series of augmented listening experiences, fostering a deeper understanding of the environment's interplay with technology and culturally situated knowledge.
Koho is a sound artist and sound designer who works extensively with sound. In addition to live performances, sound installations, radio works, listening maps, and sound walks, Koho collaborates with actors from different fields of art. Recently, Koho’s interest has focused on the practices and theories of sound and listening, as well as listening to what is already heard.
